  • Description: The film was shot in Constantinople by the director of the National Turkish Theater, Ertugrul Muhsin Bey with a script by Grigorios Xenopoulos, based on his novel by the same name. It was shown as one of the first contemporary Greek films to include full sound and conversation. A young woman turns to prostitution, and her brother murders her to restore his family’s honor.
    1. THE COUPLE'S MEETING At the beginning of the extract there is a title with no obvious connection or relevance to the film. In black letters set against a white background it says: MOMENTS THAT LAST A YEAR. Shot description: Marika Kotopouli approaches the camera lens at a row of trees. She looks at the road as if waiting for something to happen. She is lightly dressed in the fashion of the early 1930s and has a broad-brimmed hat on. Set in panoramic format, a luxury car approaches and pulls up beside Marika. A man steps out of the car and the two of them get in. The car moves off. A car is travelling against the Acropolis in the background. (VAS. OLGAS AVENUE)
    2. THE COUPLE TAKING A ROMANTIC WALK AND THE KISS The couple are walking in the garden arm-in-arm. Marika talks incessantly. She picks a flower and puts it up on the man's lapel. Anyone who has seen Marika Kotopouli's pictures will promptly identify in this shot one of her standardized poses. There is a prolonged kiss in the mouth. Then they walk out of the frame.     3. IN THE MEANTIME, SOME OTHER MEN ARE STROLLING IN THE GARDEN A man in the garden picks a flower and puts it up on his jacket lapel. Two men in suits meet another man and they greet one another. (THE NATIONAL GARDENS)
